STUDENT BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS: TUESDAY TITLES FROM FREDERICTON HIGH SCHOOL

Jun

Last summer, we featured student recommendations from Leo Hayes High School readers on Fredericton’s north side. This summer, we’re crossing the bridge to Fredericton High School, where students in Colleen Kennedy’s Grade 10 class are ready to share some of the books they think should be read.

Before these recommendations were submitted, we had the opportunity to visit the class and confer with students about their reading and writing. What stood out most was not only the thoughtful recommendations students were crafting, but also how open they were to share their thinking with unfamiliar faces. From conversations about favourite characters and surprising plot twists, students welcomed us into their reading lives with honesty and enthusiasm. We are also incredibly grateful to Colleen for opening her classroom to us and creating a space where students felt comfortable taking risks and sharing their voices.

Over the next few months, you’ll hear directly from these student readers. Whether you are looking for your next classroom recommendation, adding to your own reading list, or simply curious about the books resonating with today’s teens, check back each Tuesday to read about a new title.

As our final post before summer, we’re excited to turn the blog over to student voices for the next few months. We’ll see you back here in the fall.

Wishing you a summer filled with whatever you need most,

Jill, Christie, and Melissa
