GUEST WRITER OAKLEY HART RECOMMENDS THE BELLWOODS GAME BY CELIA KRAMPIEN

Fears, friendship and fables surround the players of The Bellwoods Game. Bailee has always loved spooky stories, and the ghost of Abigail Snook and the Bellwoods Game has all the sixth-grade students of Beckett Elementary giddy with excitement. Whoever wins the game is said to get a wish, and while Bailee isn’t sure if she believes that or not, there is something she desperately wants. Bailee has been an outcast since the principal busted her friend before a dangerous dare, and to the students of Beckett Elementary it’s obvious Bailee was the one who told. Madison is the only friend Bailee has left, and even then, Madison’s thirst for popularity has left Bailee on the sidelines.

Only the new kid Noah seems to not mind being seen talking to Bailee, and it’s mostly because he’s chasing the story of Abigail Snook. When Bailee journeys into the Bellwoods, all the stories and legends of the woods take a new form, and Bailee and the other competitors must come together to face their fears. They might end up learning that there’s more to the legends of the Bellwoods than what meets the eye.

The Bellwoods Game is a wonderfully spooky book, perfect for those looking for a little scare. While this book likely won’t terrify those familiar with horror, it may serve as a good entrance to the genre and may scare those who are easily frightened. The book also features lovely illustrations that weave themselves into the page with the text that enhance the experience of reading this book.

Oakley Hart is a BEd student at UNBF, their undergraduate degree majored in History and minored in English. When they don’t have their nose buried in a book, they enjoy drawing, writing and playing Dungeons and Dragons.
